ASSISTANT FEDERAL PUBLIC DEFENDER
CHARLESTON, SC
The Office of the Federal Public Defender, District of South Carolina, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Federal Public Defender, based in the Charleston Office, for a one year appointment. Applicants must have at least two years of criminal trial experience, and by local rule, a member of the South Carolina Bar. The Federal Public Defender operates under authority of the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. §3006A, to provide defense services in federal criminal cases and related matters in the federal courts.
Applicants should have strong research and writing skills, a thorough knowledge of criminal law, a dedication to work with disadvantaged persons, an ability to articulate positions and demonstrate trial skills, negotiate, a commitment that the job comes first, and an ability to work with others. The position may require travel throughout the district, some overnight travel, out of district training, and irregular work hours.
