The Deaf Sensitivity training class entitled I NEVER GAVE THAT A THOUGHT! is scheduled for Monday, February 4, 2019, 8:00 am-1:00 pm, Eastern Time, (with an optional 1-hr. module about TBI/ABI (Traumatic Brain/Acquired Brain Injury) after a 1/2 hour break from the Deaf sensitivity class. This training will be held at the NASSAU BOARD OF COOPERATIVE EDUCATION SERVICES (BOCES) training center at 1 Merrick Avenue in Westbury, Long Island, NY. The 4-hour class delves into the many aspects of Deaf life in America and how a varied list of organizations can learn about the special needs this population in order to perform public safety duties to maximum efficiency and safety for the community AND law enforcement personnel. For patrol, detectives, dispatch, corrections, crisis intervention, this class is a MUST to learn know how to interact with those who lack auditory and vocal acuity. As a society with its own Deaf community and Deaf culture, without knowledge of how they function in the world of silence, those charged with protecting the community need attend to do justice to their charge of working with residents and visitors alike.

FACT: over 10% of the population are Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH). FACT: this class is not about communication via ASL (American Sign Language) that is important; It's knowing the inside feelings and emotions that makes us aware of just what it is this group needs and deserves. Law enforcement personnel as well as government agencies such as courts, jail (corrections), communications (dispatch), school systems, etc. are encouraged to attend. $90 per person.

Note that this class serves many other professions, organizations and industries. It is vital training for college and university personnel, fire & medical departments, mass transit operations, airports, malls, financial institutions, and is especially needed in hospitals and health care facilities.

The TBI/ABI module is a 1-hour option at $30 p/p flat. It is not free standing and can only be reserved as an add-to the deaf sensitivity training.
