Almost all new guitars will need a set-up, whether they cost 250.00 or 14,000.00. Guitars that have been played for years will also need an occasional tweak, adjustment, modification, or maybe even a partial to complete overhaul. Some musicians will even play an instrument that was badly adjusted for years, and never realize just how much they’d been struggling with it until it’s finally adjusted to be played more easily, or to sound more like what they’d been wanting it to sound like all along.
Through the years, I’ve inspected, handled, worked on, played, listened to, modified, set-up, and/or owned hundreds of different guitars, of all kinds.
Electrics: Archtops, hollowbodies, semi-hollowbodies, solidbodies, homemade guitars, handmade guitars, factory-made guitars . . . almost anything imaginable. Classicals: Entry-level student to concert-quality of the highest order and everything in-between. Acoustics: Martin, Gibson, Fender, Takamine, Ibanez, Guild, Breedlove, Santa Cruz, Bourgeois, Lakewood, Greven . . . the list goes on, including some makers who seem to out-Martin and out-Gibson Martin and Gibson themselves.
Banjos, you might ask? Yep, I can work on those, as well.
Also: If your acoustic guitar is more than a year old, and is not quite sounding the way that you'd like for it to, ask me about re-voicing the box so that we can optimize the sound.
They say “the devil is in the details,” and they may be correct, but sheer delight also awaits the guitarist when we get the details just right. Getting your instrument dialed-in correctly, so that learning, creating, playing, enjoying, and sharing your music comes alive, and where your guitar gets out of your way, allowing you channel and communicate the music itself, is what it’s all about.
This is my aim, and what I offer to the world of the guitarist and musician.
